ASI updates and Downloading drawings
There needs to be a better method to update drawing ASI’s, currently our SOP is very tedious and has a high potential for error. Is there currently an easier way to do this? Some ASI’s will take more than an hour or two just to upload and prepare overlays for the team. Our current process for updating drawings in mercury is below;
For example - we receive an ASI that contains architectural, structural, electrical, fire alarm, civil, plumbing, and G sheets.
1.) We download the ASI drawings to desktop, bookmark and create page labels, and prepare the files for overlays.
2.) Next, to actually perform the overlays, unless you already have the most current (old) drawing set already downloaded on your desktop, you must download each drawing discipline separately (architectural, structural, etc.) one by one. Once you’ve downloaded everything, you then can go two directions; (1) bookmark and page label each downloaded current drawing file separately and perform the overlay individually for each file OR (2) staple each discipline together into one big file and process the overlay normally.
3.) Once overlays are done, then we actually upload the ASI drawings into mercury. If you upload the ASI drawings, then attempt to create an overlay afterward, there is no way to download the previous version of drawings as a whole. This means unless you or someone else already has the previous drawing set downloaded after the ASI has been uploaded, there is no way to download the previous set of drawings aside from downloading each page individually from mercury, after selecting the previous version.
4.) To upload the drawings to mercury, we have to split up the ASI by discipline? This part takes the most time and is the greatest potential for error. Currently, we bookmark and page label each sheet in the ASI (step 1 above), then move the pages for each discipline into their own file, (ASI 18 architectural, ASI 18 electrical, ASI 18 plumbing, etc.)
5.) Now that we have all the files ready to upload, we have to update each drawing discipline one by one in mercury. Matching pages usually goes without error as long as you are uploading a file that only contains the pages for that discipline.
So, to recap (excluding the overlay process); ASI drawings bookmarked, page labeled and separated into multiple files by discipline > each discipline uploaded individually to update the drawings in mercury.
My thoughts for making the process easier;
Upload an ASI as one document containing all disciplines to the entire drawing set. It should not be necessary to split the ASI into multiple files to upload to mercury.
You should also be able to download the current drawings as one file, not only by discipline. When creating overlays, this is the most tedious part.
You should also be able to view and download the entire previous drawing set, not just the previous ASI/addendum.
